In 2001 Yamaha released the largest 4-stroke sport quad the world had ever seen, the Yamaha Raptor 660. The new Raptor was not intended to only be a race quad but it found its way on to many tracks. The Raptor Series is comprised of extremely capable sport ATV's, but they're just as comfortable out on the trails. The original Raptor 660 was produced from 2001-2005. It had a 660cc, liquid cooled, 5-valve, 4-stroke single cylinder engine.
In 2006 Yamaha preformed the first major overhaul on the big-bore Raptor. Increasing the engine up to 686cc, Yamaha created the largest bore sport quad of the day - the Raptor 700R. Yamaha continues to improve the suspension and style of the 700R to keep it competitive with all the other big-bore sport quads entering the market.
